Using the Record Office

Please help us to protect the written heritage of Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland and ensure that everyone can use and enjoy these resources. It is possible to make copies of most items in the collections: please ask staff for assistance if you wish to use your own camera or mobile device as a daily charge applies. See Our Services for more information on Copying and Publication and Copyright.

Below is a short guide to using the office, but if you are in any doubt please ask staff for help.

Please Do:

  • Ask for help if you need it and enjoy your visit
  • Sign in and out each time you visit
  • No bags are allowed in the Searchrooms and should be put in a locker
  • Only pencils can be used; you may take a notepad and papers (in a clear folder) into the Searchrooms
  • If using a laptop and/or camera they must be removed from their bags which can be stored in a locker
  • Ask staff for help if you need to make or order copies
  • Handle all books and records carefully and with clean hands. If material is dirty, fragile or difficult to handle please ask for assistance.

Please Don’t

  • Be baffled – we are here to help you!
  • Use mobile phones or make excessive noise in the searchrooms
  • Eat or drink anything (including sweets and medication) in the searchrooom
